Discover P2 Term 1: Axis 2, Chapter 2
GoalName some birds and animals of Egypt, match them to their habitats, and write research notes about one.
New words
egret · a white bird with long legs that walks in fields and eats insectsresearch · finding out facts about somethinglocal · living or found near us
Explanation
Many birds and animals live in Egypt. White egrets walk in the fields beside farm animals and eat insects. People call the egret the farmer’s friend. Doves live in villages and cities. Geese swim in the Nile. Camels, lizards and foxes live in the desert. Dolphins and turtles swim in the sea. Each animal lives where it finds what it needs. To learn about a local animal, we do research. We find three facts and write where we found them.
Worked examples
Youssef sees a white egret walking beside a buffalo in a field. The egret eats the insects.
A scorpion hides in the desert sand. A crocodile rests on the bank of the Nile. A dolphin swims in the sea.
Seif chooses the camel for his research. His three facts: a camel lives in the desert; it can go a long time without drinking; it can carry people and loads. He writes: “I asked my grandfather.”
