Find 3 things in the kitchen (a spoon, a fork, a ladle). Line them up and put them in order from the shortest to the longest.
The three things lined up at the same start, shortest to longest; check that the child lined up one end.

Stand back to back with someone in your family. Who is taller? Who is shorter? Use the words taller and shorter.
A correct sentence such as ‘Mum is taller than me, and I am shorter than Mum.’

Build two towers with blocks, cups or books. Count each tower. Which is taller?
The tower with more blocks (of the same size) is taller.

Look at the picture. Which tower is the tallest? Which tower is the shortest?
Tallest: B (8 blocks). Shortest: C (3 blocks).

Find something wide and something thin at home (for example a wide book and a thin pencil). Say a sentence with the word wider or thinner.
Any sensible pair, for example ‘The book is wider than the pencil.’
