Counting, comparing, ordering and estimating

Put 14 spoons, buttons or beans on a table. Put 10 in a pile and count on for the others. How many are there?
14. The child counts 10 and then 11, 12, 13, 14.

Draw a number line from 0 to 20. Mark 6 and 16 on it. Which number is greater?
6 is near 0 and 16 is near 20. 16 is greater.

Open a book at three different pages between 10 and 20. Write the three page numbers in order from smallest to greatest.
Any three page numbers from 10 to 20 in the correct order, for example 11, 16, 19.

Take a handful of beans (up to 20). Is there fewer than 10 or between 10 and 20? Write your estimate, then count.
The child makes an estimate and counts; check that the count is correct.

Tell a grown-up two sentences: one using the word ‘greater’ and one using the word ‘less’.
For example: 17 is greater than 12. 12 is less than 17.
