Muhammad Rizo Ogahiy and his ghazals
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Write three directions of Ogahiy’s work (state, history, poetry/translation) with one example each.
State – mirab; history – completing “Firdavs ul-iqbol”; poetry/translation – “Ta’viz ul-oshiqin” and the translation of “Guliston”.
2
Give one example of personification from the ghazal “Navro‘z” and one of your own observation.
E.g. Nowruz acted as midwife; your own: “autumn dressed the garden in a golden coat”.
3
Explain with the ghazal “Navro‘z” how the lyrical hero may not be the poet himself.
The poor man in the ghazal is a general image of the poor; Ogahiy held high posts.
4
List the wishes the poet has for the ruler in the ghazal “Ilohi, har kuning navro‘z bo‘lsun”.
Constant joy and fortune, his justice lighting the world like the sun, defeat of his enemies, the disobedient set straight.
