How biology is studied
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Write one example you invent yourself for each of the four methods.
Free answer; the examples must fit each method’s definition.
2
Observe the leaves of two trees (for example mulberry and poplar) and write similarities and differences in a table. Say which method you used.
Comparison (and observation); the table should include features such as leaf shape, size and edge.
3
Write an experiment plan to find how bean seeds sprout in light and in darkness: what do you change, what do you keep the same, what do you measure?
Changed: light; kept the same: number of seeds, soil, water, temperature; measured: time to sprout and seedling height.
4
Why do scientists use several methods together? Explain with one example.
One method does not give the whole picture; for example, observation raises a question and an experiment then tests it.
