Human organ systems
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
When you eat breakfast and then run to school, which organ systems are working? Write at least four and what each is doing at that moment.
For example: digestive – breaks down food; respiratory – takes in oxygen; circulatory – carries oxygen and nutrients; supporting and movement – makes running possible; nervous – controls the movement.
2
Count your pulse for 30 seconds at rest and multiply by 2. Write the result (under adult supervision).
Depends on the measurement; in children usually about 70–100 beats per minute.
3
If the heart beats 70 times a minute, how many beats in 10 minutes?
700
4
Explain with a diagram in your notebook how the biceps and triceps work when you bend and straighten your arm.
Bending: biceps contracts, triceps relaxes; straightening: biceps relaxes, triceps contracts.
5
Why does the whole body suffer if one system fails? Give one example.
The systems depend on each other; for example, if the heart works poorly, oxygen-rich blood from the lungs does not reach all organs.
