Explanation

Water is needed for life: we drink it, cook, wash, and water plants and animals. In many places water is scarce or hard and costly to bring. In our country water is scarce too. For example, the Aral Sea was once a huge lake; today sand and salt cover much of where it used to be. So we do not waste water: we turn the tap off while brushing teeth, tell adults if a tap drips, and do not use drinking water to sprinkle the yard.

Worked examples
“The dripping tap”. In the evening Jasur heard a tap dripping in the kitchen. He thought: many drops a minute, and over a day maybe several buckets of water. Jasur told his mother, and she called a repairman. Jasur became the home’s “water guard”: every day he checks the taps.
Class activity

“A bucket of water”: children list daily habits (washing, dishes, watering) and discuss which could waste water and how to save.
