When the railway is near
Textbook p. 15
GoalRemember the rules for staying safe near a railway.
New words
railway · temir yo‘lcrossing · o‘tish joyirailway carriage · vagon
Explanation
A railway is dangerous because a train moves fast and cannot stop quickly. Rules: cross the railway only at a pedestrian crossing, a bridge or a special walkway; do not walk on the rails or put anything on them; do not go under carriages or pass between them where they are coupled; do not go near or climb on a standing carriage; do not get on or off a moving train. Do not play near the railway or walk with headphones on.
Worked examples
“The short way”. Bobur was walking home from school with his friend Akbar. Akbar said: “If we cross the rails, the way will be much shorter.” Bobur thought and said: “No, you cannot know whether a train is coming. We will go over the bridge; it is five minutes longer but safe.” Akbar agreed.
Class activity
“Safe map”: children draw the way from school to home (or an imaginary way), marking dangerous places in red and safe crossings in green.
