Explanation
Uzbekistan has deserts, mountains, rivers and oases. To protect nature, animals and plants, nature reserves have been set up, for example Hisor, Nurota and Zarafshon reserves. Rare animals and plants that are disappearing are listed in the Red Book. A reserve has rules: we do not pick flowers or plants, we do not disturb animals, we do not litter. We go on a journey with parents or adults, stay with the group and take water and warm clothes. After the trip the place should stay clean. Humans are part of nature, so protecting it is protecting ourselves.
Worked examples
“Trip plan”. Shahlo wanted to go to the mountains with her family at the weekend. With her parents she found the route on the map and wrote a list: water, a hat and a bag for rubbish. In the mountains they did not pick flowers, took pictures of animal tracks and carried down empty bottles found on the trail in a bag. Shahlo said nature made her happy.
Class activity
“Journey plan”: groups plan an imaginary trip: where, with whom, what to take and which rules to follow. Then they show it on the map.
