Textbook pp. 4–7
GoalKnow the state symbols (flag, emblem, anthem) and understand what patriotism means.
New words
homeland · Vatanflag · bayroqcoat of arms, emblem · gerbanthem · madhiya
Explanation
Every country has its own symbols: a flag, an emblem and an anthem. The flag of Uzbekistan flies over state buildings, and the emblem can be seen on official documents and money. The anthem is played at ceremonies; we stand up and listen to it with respect. A person who loves their country, values its history and culture and is ready to take care of it is called a patriot. This quality is called patriotism.
Worked examples
“The map of our land”. Dilnoza sat with her grandfather looking at a map of Uzbekistan. Grandfather told her a little about each region: where there are high mountains, where there are ancient cities, where there are sweet melons. Dilnoza drew a small picture next to each region. The next day she brought the map to class and told everyone about the place where she was born. Her classmates wanted to learn more about their own regions too.
Class activity
“My homeland’s business card”: each child writes three facts about their birthplace on a card, adds a drawing and presents it to the class.
