A dandelion
Textbook pp. 52–53
GoalPaint a dandelion’s yellow flower and its white fluffy seed head.
New words
dandelion · qoqio‘tseed · urug‘fluffy · paxmoqwind · shamol
Explanation
Dandelions bloom in meadows in spring. First the flower is yellow, then it turns into a white fluffy ball. When the wind blows, the tiny seeds fly away like parachutes. We paint the yellow flower with many thin petals and the white ball with thin lines spreading out from the centre.
Worked examples
On a blue background: two yellow dandelions and one white fluffy ball, with a few seeds flying in the wind.
Class activity
Steps: 1) Draw green stems and jagged leaves. 2) On one stem, draw the flower with short yellow lines spreading from the centre. 3) On another stem, draw thin white lines in every direction from a centre, with tiny dots at their ends: the fluffy ball. 4) Add seeds flying in the air. White shows up well on a dark background.
