An apple tree

Textbook pp. 46–47
GoalLearn the parts of a tree and paint a blossoming apple tree.
New words
tree · daraxttrunk · tanabranch · shoxcrown (of a tree) · shox-shabba
Explanation

A tree has roots, a trunk, branches and leaves. The trunk is thick at the bottom; the branches get thinner as they go up and split in two again and again. In spring the apple tree has white-pink blossoms, and in autumn red apples ripen. First we draw the trunk and branches, then the leaves and blossoms.

Worked examples
A brown trunk, branches that split like the letter “Y”, white-pink blossoms among green leaves.
Class activity

Steps: 1) Paint a thick brown trunk at the bottom. 2) Grow “Y”-shaped branches from it, then thinner twigs from those. 3) Press green leaves around the branches with the tip of the brush. 4) Add white and pink blossoms with a cotton bud. Game: “Be a tree”: feet are roots, body is the trunk, arms are branches, fingers are twigs.
