Explanation
Art is showing the world around us through pictures. Long ago people drew on cave walls and rocks. Today we paint on paper, cloth, walls and dishes. In class we need a sketchbook, pencils and coloured pencils, an eraser, and watercolour and gouache paints.
Worked examples
Tools: a sketchbook, a pencil, coloured pencils, an eraser, watercolours, gouache, a brush, a water cup.
Class activity
“Magic bag”: the teacher puts a pencil, a brush, an eraser, paint, a spoon, a toy and so on in a bag. A child takes one with eyes closed and says whether it is an art tool. Then everyone draws something they like on the first page of the sketchbook. Rule: rinse the brush in water and dab it on a napkin.
