Painting with crumpled paper
Textbook pp. 51–51
GoalMake a flower or tree picture by printing with crumpled paper.
New words
to crumple · g‘ijimlamoqtexture · teksturaprint · izgouache paint · guash
Explanation
We crumple paper in our hand into a small ball. When we touch it to paint and press it on the page, it leaves a wrinkly print. This print looks like a flower, a tree crown or a cloud. Every print comes out different, which makes the picture interesting.
Worked examples
Red crumpled-paper prints + green stems = flowers; green prints + a brown trunk = a tree.
Class activity
Steps: 1) Take a piece of scrap paper or newspaper and crumple it. 2) Pour gouache on a saucer and touch the ball to it. 3) Test it on scrap paper first, then press it on your picture. 4) Add stems, a trunk or leaves with a brush. Game: “Find the print”: children compare prints and see that no two are the same.
