Icicles
Textbook pp. 26–27
GoalPaint a winter scene with icicles hanging from roofs.
New words
icicle · sumalakice · muzroof · tomsnow · qor
Explanation
In winter the days get cold and snow falls. Water running off the roof freezes into icicles. An icicle looks like a long thin triangle pointing down: wide at the top and sharp at the bottom. We paint them in cold colours: light blue, blue and white.
Worked examples
Long and short icicles hanging from a snowy roof; a yellow light shines in the window.
Class activity
Steps: 1) Draw a house: walls, a roof, a window. 2) Add a white layer of snow on the roof. 3) From the roof edge, draw triangles of different lengths pointing down: icicles. 4) Paint them light blue and blue, leaving one edge white so the ice shines. Safety talk: standing under icicles is dangerous; they can fall.
