Painting with a sponge and cotton
Textbook pp. 50–50
GoalLearn to paint by dabbing with a sponge or a piece of cotton wool.
New words
sponge · sponjto press, to dab · bosmoqsoft · yumshoqcloud · bulut
Explanation
We dip a sponge or a piece of cotton wool lightly in paint and dab it gently on paper. It leaves a soft, fluffy mark. With this method it is easy to paint clouds, tree crowns, a lamb’s wool or grass. We take only a little paint, otherwise the mark runs like water.
Worked examples
White sponge dabs on a blue background are clouds; green dabs are bushes.
Class activity
Steps: 1) Use small pieces of sponge (an adult cuts them) or pieces of cotton wool. 2) Pour a little paint onto a saucer. 3) Touch the sponge to the paint, dab off the extra on scrap paper, then press it on your picture. 4) Make one scene: white clouds in the sky, green grass below and a white lamb. Rule: use a separate sponge for each colour.
