Explanation
In spring the snowdrop blooms first, then flowers like tulips and mimosa. Mimosa has tiny, round, bright yellow flowers, like little suns, and feathery green leaves. We paint the flowers as yellow dots with a cotton bud and the leaves as thin brush strokes.
Worked examples
Dozens of fluffy yellow dots among feathery green leaves: a mimosa sprig.
Class activity
Steps: 1) Paint a few thin green stems with watercolour. 2) Add tiny thin leaves, like feathers, to the stems. 3) Dip a cotton bud in yellow and dot clusters at the ends of the stems. 4) Add orange to a few dots to give the flowers depth. Game: “Spring flowers”: the teacher shows a flower picture and children name it.
