Explanation
A still life is a picture of things on a table: a vase, fruit, dishes. Both sides of a vase are the same; this is symmetry. If we fold paper in half, draw half a vase on the fold and cut it out, it opens into a whole, even vase. We draw flowers and decorate around them with splatter.
Worked examples
A folded-and-cut blue vase + 3 red tulips + yellow splatter around it.
Class activity
Steps: 1) Fold coloured paper in half, draw half a vase against the fold and cut it out. 2) Open it and glue it at the bottom of the page. 3) Draw and paint stems and flowers coming out of the vase. 4) Cover the vase and flowers with paper and splatter a light colour on the background with a toothbrush. Safety: cut the folded paper carefully and keep your fingers away from the cutting line.
