Textbook pp. 34–35
GoalDraw animals like a chick and an elephant from shapes and show how they differ.
New words
elephant · filtrunk · xartumchick · jo‘jabig and small · katta-kichik
Explanation
Animals can be big or small. A chick is tiny and yellow and is drawn from two circles. An elephant is very big and grey, with a long trunk and big ears. If we draw both on one page, we make the elephant big and the chick small.
Worked examples
Elephant: a big oval body, a circle head, a long curved trunk, 4 thick legs. Chick: two yellow circles.
Class activity
Steps: 1) Draw the elephant’s oval body across most of the page. 2) Add a big ear and a long trunk to the head. 3) Draw a tiny chick next to the elephant’s foot. 4) Paint the elephant grey and the chick yellow. Game: “Big or small?” Say an animal; children show its size with wide arms or close hands.
