An apple

Textbook pp. 22–23
GoalPaint an apple showing its shape, colour, light and shadow.
New words
apple · olmastalk · bandshadow · soyalight, bright · yorug‘
Explanation

An apple is round, with a dip and a stalk on top. Apples can be red, yellow or green. The side where light falls is painted lighter and the other side darker. A small grey shadow under the apple makes it look like it is sitting on a table.

Worked examples
A red apple: light red on the left, dark red on the right, a brown stalk and a green leaf.
Class activity

Steps: 1) Look at a real apple: which side is the light coming from? 2) Draw a roundish shape with a dip and a stalk at the top. 3) Paint the whole apple a light colour; when dry, add a darker colour on the shadow side. 4) Leave one white shiny spot and draw a shadow underneath.

Practice
