Explanation
A presentation is a way to show an audience what we learned, and we often use slides. Five things make it good. One: a clear title that says what it is about. Two: short text, which means a few words instead of long paragraphs. Three: pictures that help explain the idea, not just decorate. Four: the same style on every slide, such as the same colours and the same font. Five: practise before you speak, so you look at your audience and not only at the slides. A good speaker can also ask the audience a question so they join in.

Worked examples
Slide A has a long paragraph and six colours. Slide B has a title, three short points and a picture. Slide B is better because the audience can read it quickly.
Salma’s first three slides have a blue title and one font, but the fourth has a red title and a different font. The fourth looks like part of another presentation, so she fixes it to match.
Youssef practised in front of his family and noticed he was reading the slides aloud. He decided to explain in his own words and look at his audience.
Class activity
A one-minute talk. Choose a topic you know, such as your favourite animal. On paper draw three slides: a title slide, a slide with three short points and a picture, and a last slide. Practise a one-minute talk with a partner. Your partner uses the list of five things and gives you one kind suggestion.
Practice

3
Which slide is better? Say the letter.
B, because it has a big title and short points.
4
Why do we practise before presenting?
To speak calmly, remember what to say and look at the audience.
