ICT P4 Term 2, Theme 4: pp. 54–57
GoalChoose a digital tool to present information, and know the device must be able to run the program.
New words
poster · a big sheet with a title, pictures and short informationpresentation program · a program for making slides for a talkword processor · a program for writing and arranging text and picturesdesktop publishing program · a program made for posters, leaflets and signs
Explanation

When you present information, first think about the tools you need. Suppose your teacher asks for a digital poster. You need a program that lets you design it. A set of office programs usually has different choices. A presentation program makes slides, a word processor writes text and arranges pictures, and a desktop publishing program is made for posters, leaflets and signs. The device must also be able to run the program: an old or very small device may be slow or may not have enough room, so ask your teacher which device and program to use. On paper, you can plan any poster first with a pencil and a ruler.

Worked examples
saving waterposter
Karim needs a poster about saving water. The best tool is a desktop publishing program, or a word processor if that is not available.
a talkslides
Salma will give a three-minute talk with pictures. The best tool is a presentation program, because it makes slides.
old computer✗ask the teacher
Omar’s family computer is very old, so the new program does not run on it. Omar asks his teacher which school computer to use.
Class activity

Tool cards. On four cards, write four jobs: a poster about a clean park, a letter to a librarian, a talk with five slides, a leaflet for a school fair. On four other cards write: presentation program, word processor, desktop publishing program, pencil and paper. Match each job to the best tool. Sometimes two tools could work; explain why.
