Cashier and customer

Discover P2 Term 2: Axis 4, Chapter 1
GoalHave a polite shopping conversation and pay with Egyptian pounds, working out the total and the change.
New words
cashier · the person who takes the money in a shopcustomer · a person who buys things in a shopchange · the money given back when we pay more than the total
Explanation

In a shop the cashier and the customer talk to each other. The cashier greets the customer, says the total and takes the money. The customer says what he or she wants, asks the price, pays and says thank you. In Egypt we pay in pounds, written LE. The total is all the prices added together. If we pay with more than the total, the cashier gives us change. To find the change, subtract the total from the money we gave. For example, a total of 8 LE paid with 10 LE gives 10 − 8 = 2 LE change.

Play shop. Make four items with paper price labels from 1 to 10 LE and some paper money. Take turns to be the cashier and the customer. Say the greeting, the total, the payment, the change and thank you. Check the change by counting up from the total to the money paid.
