Communicating in my community (1)
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Ask a grown-up to help you list everyone you talked to today. Sort them into family, friends and community and draw a dot for each person.
Check that every person is in a sensible group and the dots match the list.
2
Ask a family member to help you with a small job, such as finding a book. Use “please” and “thank you”. Take turns to speak and listen.
The child asks politely, listens to the answer and says thank you.
3
Write a short letter to someone in your family. Begin with “Dear …” and end with your name. Fold paper into an envelope and write the address.
The letter has a greeting, a message and a name, and the envelope shows a name and address.
4
Look at an envelope or a parcel at home. Find the name and the address. Say what each part is for.
The name tells who the letter is for. The address tells the post where to take it.
5
With a grown-up, practise an email on paper. Draw three boxes: To, Subject and Message. Fill them in for a friend.
The “To” box has an address, the subject has a few words and the message is short and kind. Nothing is sent.
