Abdulla Qahhor
Abdulla Qahhor was born on 17 September 1907 in Qo‘qon. His father Abduqahhor was a blacksmith who moved around the villages near Qo‘qon to make a living, so the family never stayed long in one place. The writer studied at an old school, at the jadid school in Oqqo‘rg‘on, and then at the teacher-training technicum in Qo‘qon (1922–1924), and in 1930 he graduated from the pedagogical faculty of Central Asian State University. His writing began in 1924; his stories and feuilletons were printed in the magazine “Mushtum” and the newspapers “Yangi Farg‘ona” and “Qizil O‘zbekiston”. Among his famous works are the novel “Sarob” (1934), the novel “Qo‘shchinor chiroqlari” (1951), the comedies “Shohi so‘zana” and “Og‘riq tishlar”, and the novellas “Sinchalak” and “Muhabbat”. Abdulla Qahhor died on 25 May 1968.
