The novel “Sariq devni minib” (Riding the Yellow Giant)
The main hero of the novel is a sixth-grader, Hoshimjon. He finds a magic cap woven of white wool and with its help becomes invisible and watches what other people do. This way he exposes the tricks of the cheating fortune-teller Soraxon and her son Mirobiddinxo‘ja. But Hoshimjon also uses the magic for bad purposes: he peeks into teachers’ notes to get good marks without knowledge and finally leaves school. He tries various professions (for example he wants to be an agronomist), but because he lacks knowledge he makes comic mistakes everywhere. Through laughter the work tells the reader that you find your place in life not by magic or cheating but only by knowledge and work. The writer uses humour and satire, so the book is both entertaining and instructive.
“Magic cap test”: the class discusses what good use they would make of an invisibility cap and how this differs from Hoshimjon.
