Pirimqul Qodirov: life and work
Pirimqul Qodirov was born on 25 October 1928 in the village of Kengko‘l near Khujand in a shepherd’s family. During collectivisation his father was labelled a “kulak” and lost his property, which hit the family hard. In the war years young Pirimqul worked alongside adults. He graduated from the oriental faculty of Tashkent State University in 1951 and in 1954 defended a candidate dissertation on the language and style of his teacher Abdulla Qahhor. As a student he published “Studentlar” (1951). His novels: “Uch ildiz” (1958), “Qora ko‘zlar” (1966), “Olmos kamar” (1976), “Yulduzli tunlar” (1979), “Avlodlar dovoni” (1989); novellas: “Qadrim”, “Erk”, “Meros”, “Najot” and others. He devoted nearly twenty years to research on historical themes. He was People’s Writer of Uzbekistan and died in 2010. His works have been translated into many foreign languages.
