In this lesson we work on a text and pay attention to the sound make-up of words. While reading, mark an unfamiliar word and find its meaning. Then answer the questions in full sentences. In bird names the numbers of sounds and letters often differ: the word «qaldirg‘och» (swallow) has 10 letters but 9 sounds, because ch is one sound. The word «chumchuq» (sparrow) has 8 letters and 6 sounds.

Text: «Laylaklar» (Storks). In spring storks come back from warm lands and build a big nest of twigs on top of a high tower or pole. Our people call the stork the messenger of spring and never touch its nest.
