The vocabulary of the Uzbek language
All the words that exist in a language are called the vocabulary, or word stock, of that language. The branch of linguistics that studies words and their meanings is called lexicology; the term is made of two Greek words meaning “word” and “teaching”. The Uzbek vocabulary is very large: one thing or action can be expressed with several words (ko‘k, moviy, havorang — blue; gapirmoq, so‘zlamoq, aytmoq — to speak, to say). This shows how rich and expressive our language is. Our mother tongue is a spiritual treasure of our people, and protecting it is the duty of each of us.
The “golden chest of our language”: in groups find as many words as possible meaning “beautiful”. Who finds more?
