Dear Diary: my day out
A diary entry is about my own day, so I write in the first person: I went, I saw, I felt. I start with the date and Dear Diary. I write what happened in order with the past simple: first, then, after that, in the end. I write my feelings: I was excited, I was tired, I was surprised. In a diary we can use informal words. A diary is private, so we do not read another person’s diary. Read the model entry.

Dear Diary,
Today was a great day! First, my class went on a bus to an old market in Cairo. Then we wandered between the stalls and saw lamps and baskets. I was very excited. After that I ate a sandwich with my friends at lunchtime. In the afternoon I was tired, but I took a lot of photos. We saw an enormous brass tray on one stall. I was happy to go home. Good night, Diary!

Do you write a diary, Salma?
Yes. I write about my day and my feelings.
Do you show it to your friends?
No. It is private. My diary is only for me.
My diary page. Take a clean page. Write the day and Dear Diary. Write six to eight sentences about a day out. Use first, then, after that and two feelings. The grown-up does not read it unless you want to share it. Then read it aloud if you like.
