Connect Primary 5 Term 1, Unit 1: pp. 4–9
GoalAsk and answer Are there any …? and write a shopping list.
New words
list · words in a row that help you rememberany · we use it in questions and with notneed · you must have itenough · as much as you want
Explanation
We use any to ask about more than one thing. Are there any beans? We can answer: Yes, there are. or No, there aren’t. With foods we cannot count we ask: Is there any rice? We answer: Yes, there is. or No, there isn’t. We use some in a yes answer: There are some beans. We use any in a no answer: There aren’t any beans. A shopping list helps us remember what we need.
| Question | Yes | No |
|---|---|---|
| Are there any beans? | Yes, there are. | No, there aren’t. |
| Is there any rice? | Yes, there is. | No, there isn’t. |
