Acting out jobs

Discover P2 Term 1: Axis 1, Chapter 3
GoalAct out different jobs and say what each worker might say.
New words
role-play · acting as another person, like a workerpartner · the friend who works with mepolite · using kind and respectful wordsguess · to say what you think the answer is
Explanation

In a role-play we act as a worker. First we think: what does this worker do? Which tools does the worker use? What might the worker say? A doctor might say, “Where does it hurt?” A baker might say, “Fresh bread! Who would like some?” A pilot might say, “Please fasten your seatbelts.” We speak clearly and politely, use simple props and take turns. Our partner guesses the job from what we do and say. Role-play helps us understand what workers do and why their jobs matter.

Doctor

Where does it hurt?

Baker

Fresh bread! Who would like some?

Pilot

Please fasten your seatbelts.

Worked examples
Seif is the doctor. His partner Mina says her tummy hurts. Seif says, “Where does it hurt? Let me listen.” He uses a toy stethoscope.
Farida is a firefighter. She says, “Stay calm and walk to the door.” Her partner pretends to be a child who follows her.
Marwan holds a helmet and a ruler and says, “I make plans for bridges.” His partner guesses: “An engineer!”
Class activity

Job guessing game. Write six jobs on small papers: baker, teacher, driver, farmer, doctor, guide. Pick one without showing it. Act it for one minute and say one sentence the worker might say. Your partner guesses. Then switch. Always be polite and kind.
