Review: people, water and saving

Discover P2 Term 2: Axes 3–4
GoalRemember how people are alike and different, where our water comes from, and how we can save water and electricity.
New words
diverse · made of many different kindsfilter · something that holds back dirt as water passes throughconserve · to use something carefully so it is not wasted
Explanation

People are diverse. We look different, like different foods and celebrate different days, but we can be friends and respect each other. Much of the water in our homes comes from the Nile. It goes to a station, is cleaned and travels through pipes to our taps. A filter can make dirty water look cleaner, but filtered water from an experiment is never safe to drink. Fish, frogs, birds and reeds live in and beside the Nile. More than 100 million people live in Egypt, so we need more water, food, homes and electricity. We conserve water and electricity by closing taps and switching off lights. A poster tells a message with a picture and few words.

Class activity

Saving plan. With a grown-up, choose three ways to save water or electricity at home. Make a chart and tick it each day for a week. Then plan a poster about one of them, with one picture and three words.

Practice
1
Name two living things that live in or beside the Nile.
2
Is water that went through a filter in an experiment safe to drink?
3
A closing the tap, B switching off a light. Which one saves electricity? Say the letter.
