GoalSay what a steward is, plan ways to look after a habitat, and ask a research question.
New words

Explanation
A steward is a person who looks after something and keeps it safe. We can be stewards of our habitats. We put litter in the bin. We turn off the tap when we do not need the water. We plant and water trees. We do not pick flowers or hurt animals. To help in the best way, we ask a question and find the answer. For example: “What do birds need in our garden?” The answer is food, water and shelter. Then we know how to help.
Worked examples
Mariam takes her orange peel to the bin. She also picks up a paper bag on the grass and puts it in the bin too, with a grown-up’s help.
Omar asks: “What do birds need in our garden?” He finds out: food, water and shelter. He puts a shallow dish of clean water in the shade.
Marwan’s class looks after the school garden. They water the plants and keep the paths clean.
Class activity
Be a steward for a week. Choose one job: put litter in the bin, water a plant, or save water. Draw a chart with seven boxes, one for each day. Colour a box each day that you do your job. At the end of the week, tell your family how it went.
