A story about our own constellation

Discover P2 Term 1: Axis 2, Chapter 1
GoalInvent a constellation and tell its story with a beginning, a middle and an end.
New words
beginning · the first part of a storymiddle · the part where things happenend · the last part, where the story finishesfact · something that is true
Explanation

Every story has three parts. The beginning tells who and where. The middle tells what happens. The end tells how the story finishes. To invent a constellation, draw some stars and join them. Give the shape a name. Think: who lives in it? Plan your story, then give it a title. A story can be made up. A fact is something true, like “the Sun is a star”. A good team shares at least three facts.

Seif checks his story with a list. It has a title. It has a beginning, a middle and an end. It has a picture.
“A talking camel lives in the stars” is made up. “The Sun is the nearest star” is a fact. In a good presentation we can tell stories, but we must say which are facts.
Class activity

Team presentation with friends or family. Draw a constellation on a big dark paper and give it a name. Share the jobs: one person draws, one writes the labels, one finds facts. Write three facts you learned, such as “the Sun is a star” or “stars look small because they are far”. Practise your story, then present it. Tick your list: title, three parts, picture, three facts.

Practice
1
Put the pictures in the order of a story: beginning, middle, end. Say the letters. (A little camel finds water. A camel is lost. Stars show the way.)
ABC
2
Which part of a story tells who and where?
3
Is this a fact or made up? “The Sun is a star.”
4
Say one fact about the night sky that you learned this week.
