Textbook: pp. 50–56

New words
однородные члены предложения · uyushiq bo‘laklarинтонация перечисления · sanash ohangiобобщающее слово · umumlashtiruvchi so‘zдвоеточие · ikki nuqta
Explanation
Parts of a sentence that answer the same question, refer to the same member and do not depend on each other are homogeneous members («однородные члены предложения»). They are said with enumeration intonation and may be main or secondary members: «Яблоки, груши, виноград зреют» (homogeneous subjects), «Дети пели, танцевали, смеялись» (homogeneous predicates). Without a conjunction they are separated by commas; with a single «и» there is no comma; before «а» and «но» there is a comma. If a generalizing word comes before them, a colon follows it: «В корзине были овощи: огурцы, помидоры, перец».
Worked examples
«Дехкане выращивают хлопок, пшеницу и рис» — homogeneous complements («что?»): commas, none before «и». «Я люблю чай, а не кофе» — a comma before «а».
Generalizing word: «На столе лежали канцелярские товары: ручки, карандаши, линейки». The generalizing word is «товары»; a colon follows.
Class activity
“The list”. Teams build a sentence on one theme (fruit, professions, cities) with a generalizing word and punctuate it.
Practice
1
Find the homogeneous members: «В саду растут яблони, вишни и абрикосы».
яблони, вишни, абрикосы (подлежащие)
2
Add punctuation: «Мы купили хлеб молоко и сыр», «Он любит футбол а не шахматы».
Мы купили хлеб, молоко и сыр. Он любит футбол, а не шахматы.
3
Choose and write the generalizing word: «… капуста, морковь, лук».
Овощи: капуста, морковь, лук.
4
Why are the predicates in «Дети пели, танцевали, смеялись» homogeneous?
They refer to one subject, answer the same question («что делали?») and are said with enumeration intonation.
