What is equality? (2)
Textbook pp. 28–29
GoalKnow that girls and boys are equal, know a pupil’s rights and duties, and respect other people’s rights.
New words
gender equality · gender tenglikpupil · o‘quvchiclub · to‘garakto respect · hurmat qilish
Explanation
A person’s rights are equal regardless of sex. In childhood girls and boys have the same right to study, medical care, sport and art. Their dreams are equal too: both girls and boys can choose any profession. Housework is not only for girls and earning money is not only for boys. A pupil has rights: rest after lessons, express their opinion, ask for help. A pupil also has duties: do homework, follow rules of good behaviour and look after school property. When we defend our rights we do not forget that others have the same rights.
Worked examples
“The football pitch”. At break Laylo wanted to play football. A boy said: “Football is only for boys.” The class teacher came over and said: “Sport is for everyone. Both girls and boys can play on the pitch.” Everyone split into teams and played. Laylo scored two goals and her team cheered.
Class activity
“True or false”: the teacher reads statements (“Only girls do gymnastics”, “Both girls and boys should learn”). Children raise a green or red card and explain.
