Explanation

A museum is a place where valuable things from the past are kept and shown to people. The word “museum” comes from ancient Greek. Each object displayed for visitors is called an exhibit: ancient dishes, clothes, pictures, books, things made by craftspeople. Seeing exhibits with our own eyes helps us imagine how our ancestors lived. A person who knows history understands today and the future better. A trip to a museum with your family or class is an interesting way to spend free time.

Worked examples
“The old bowl”. In the museum Behzod saw an ancient clay bowl behind glass. The guide told how long ago and by whom it was made. At home Behzod looked at his mother’s clay bowl differently: “This too was made by someone’s hands; we must take care of it.”
Class activity

“My museum”: children bring one old but dear object (or a picture of it) from home, write an exhibit label and set up a class museum.
