Why must legends (for example the Jataka) be distinguished from historical sources? Give an example.
A legend is a story within a faith tradition, whereas a historical source is verifiable evidence. For example, finds at Termez (sculpture, stupa) are archaeological evidence; the Jataka is a collection of religious and moral stories.

He recorded about ten monasteries and roughly a thousand monks there.
