Safety in the street
Textbook Part 2, pp. 22–25
GoalKnow traffic-light signals, road signs for pedestrians and how to cross the street correctly.
New words
pedestrian · piyodatraffic light · svetoforzebra crossing · zebrapavement · yo‘lka
Explanation
In the street our eyes and ears help us, so we do not look at a phone while walking. On a traffic light, red means “Stop!”, yellow means “Get ready!”, green means “Go!”. We cross the road only at a zebra crossing, an underpass or a footbridge. Before crossing, look left, then right.
Worked examples
The pedestrian crossing sign shows a person walking across.
We wait for the bus next to the bus stop sign.
Class activity
Make a “zebra crossing” on the classroom floor with strips of white paper. One child is the “traffic light” with red, yellow and green circles. The others stop or cross according to the signal, remembering to look left, then right.
