Explanation
In winter it is cold, days are short and nights are long. Snow falls from clouds; each snowflake looks like a little star with six points. Water in puddles and ditches freezes. On frosty mornings white hoarfrost appears on tree branches.
Worked examples
In the morning the puddle froze; you can slip on it.
The children had a snowball fight and built a snowman.
Class activity
Observation: hold black paper or a dark mitten out in the cold, look at the snowflakes that land on it with a magnifying glass and count their points. Then draw a snowflake.
