My safe home

Textbook Part 2, pp. 19–21
GoalKnow what houses are built from and learn the rules for staying safe from dangers at home.
New words
brick · g‘ishtsafe · xavfsizsocket · rozetkamatches · gugurt
Explanation

Long ago houses were built of clay mixed with straw, and wood. Today houses are built of brick, concrete panels, steel and glass. A home can also have dangers: sockets, a hot iron, a gas cooker, matches, knives, medicines. We do not touch them without an adult. If there is a fire, call 101; if you smell gas, call 104.

Worked examples
Never put a finger or a metal object into a socket.
If a stranger knocks on the door, we do not open it and we call an adult.
Class activity

“Dangerous or safe?” game: the teacher shows pictures (book, matches, toy, knife, medicine, pencil). For a dangerous item children raise a red card; for a safe one, a green card.
