Water: ice, liquid, steam
Textbook Part 1, pp. 44–46
GoalKnow the three states of water: ice (solid), water (liquid), steam (gas).
New words
solid · qattiqliquid · suyuqsteam · bug‘to melt · erimoq
Explanation
Water can be in three states. In the cold, water freezes into solid ice. In warmth, ice melts back into liquid water. When we boil water, it turns into steam and rises into the air. When steam touches something cold, it turns back into water drops.
Worked examples
The water in the freezer turned into ice.
When the kettle boils, steam comes out of it.
Class activity
Experiment: put an ice cube on a saucer on the windowsill and check every 10 minutes — the ice melts into water. When an adult boils a kettle, they hold a cold mirror near the steam: water drops appear on the mirror. Never touch hot steam!
