Fan or van? Sounds f and v, and bar charts
Connect Primary 5 Term 2, Unit 8: pp. 26–33
GoalSay the sounds f and v and read a bar chart.
New words
fan · a machine that moves the airvan · a car for carrying thingsbar chart · a chart with bars of different lengthsaxis · a line on a chart with numbers or namessurvey · asking many people the same question
Explanation
Both f and v are made with the top teeth on the lower lip. For f we blow air and do not use the voice. For v we use the voice, and the throat buzzes. Put a hand on your throat and say fan and van. Now bar charts. A bar chart shows numbers with bars. The longer the bar, the bigger the number. The names go along the bottom. The numbers go up the side. In this survey, 24 children chose their favourite healthy activity. Football has 9, swimming has 6, cycling has 5 and walking has 4.
