GoalHear and say long vowel sounds in food words.
New words
long vowel · a vowel that says its own namesound · what you hear in a wordspelling · the letters of a wordfairy tale · a made-up story with magic
Explanation
Some vowels say their own name. We call them long vowels. The long a sound is in cake and grape (a-e) and in rain and snail (ai). The long i sound is in rice and kite (i-e). The long e sound is in bean, tea, peach and meat (ea). One sound can have different spellings, so we learn the words. Listen, say the sound, then say the whole word.
| Sound | Spelling | Words |
|---|---|---|
| long a | a-e | cake, grape |
| long a | ai | rain, snail |
| long i | i-e | rice, kite |
| long e | ea | bean, tea, peach |
