O‘tkir Hoshimov and “Mashaqqatli safar”
The textbook gives the autobiography “Mashaqqatli safar” (“An Arduous Journey”) by O‘tkir Hoshimov (1941–2013). The writer was born on 5 August 1941 in the village of Do‘mbirobod near Tashkent. His forefather Abulqosimxon Eshon built the madrasa in Tashkent; his father Atoulloxon was a truth-speaking, book-loving man, and his mother Hakima was gentle and kind; she resembled the mother figure in “Dunyoning ishlari”. The family had one girl and four boys. The writer brought out his first book, the essay collection “Po‘lat chavandoz”, while in his third year of study, and his first story “To‘rt maktub” appeared on 17 April 1963. A letter from Abdulla Qahhor gave him confidence. In 1966–1982 he was head of a department of the newspaper “Toshkent oqshomi”; in this period works such as “Bahor qaytmaydi”, “Qalbingga quloq sol” and “Nur borki, soya bor” were written. After his mother died in 1980, thoughts about his duty as a son led to the book “Dunyoning ishlari”. In 1985–1995 he was editor-in-chief of the magazine “Sharq yulduzi”. In forty-five years about 60 of his books appeared in more than two million copies. His greatest dream is to write a book whose reader lives with the heroes’ lives.
The class places Hoshimov’s life on a timeline of 8 events (1941, 1963, 1966, 1980, 1985, and others).
