Explanation

A short message has four parts: a greeting, the news, a request and a closing. Start with عَزِيزِي “my dear” for a man or عَزِيزَتِي for a woman, and the name. Write short sentences and give the time and the place. You can use the commands you know: تَعَالَ “come!” and اِنْتَظِر “wait!”. End with مَعَ تَحِيَّاتِي and your name. To thank for an invitation, say شُكْرًا عَلَى الدَّعْوَة.

Two commands for messages.

Class activity

Write a short message to a friend: invite him or her to your home on Saturday. Use the four parts: greeting, news, request, closing. Then write a short answer that thanks for the invitation.

Practice

Press Listen. What does the message say: thanks, congratulations or sorry?

Write the greeting to a woman called Salma: “Dear Salma,”

The picture shows a letter. Write: “Thank you for the message.”

Write: “Come to the market tomorrow.”
