Explanation

Arabic has no separate words for โ€œmyโ€ or โ€œyourโ€. It adds a short ending to the noun. Take ูƒูุชูŽุงุจ, โ€œbookโ€, and add ู€ููŠ for โ€œmyโ€: ูƒูุชูŽุงุจููŠ. For โ€œyourโ€ add ู€ููƒ to a man and ู€ููƒู to a woman. For โ€œhisโ€ add ู€ูู‡, and for โ€œherโ€ add ู€ูู‡ูŽุง. A noun with an ending never has ุงู„ู’, so you do not say ุงู„ู’ูƒูุชูŽุงุจููŠ. Before ู€ููŠ the vowel is always i, and in a plain sentence it is u before the other endings.

Say it with your things. Choose six things that you own (a book, a notebook, a phoneโ€ฆ) and say โ€œmy โ€ฆโ€ for each one with the ending ู€ููŠ. Then point at the things of a friend and say โ€œyour โ€ฆโ€ (to a man or to a woman), โ€œhis โ€ฆโ€ or โ€œher โ€ฆโ€. Write six phrases on paper, one for each ending, and underline the ending.
