Explanation

The verb “eat” is irregular: its first letter is a hamza. In the past it is أَكَلَ, and in the present “I eat” is آكُل. Learn the present as a whole and just copy the forms: آكُل، تَأْكُل، تَأْكُلِين، يَأْكُل، نَأْكُل، يَأْكُلُون، يَأْكُلْنَ. The endings are the same as for a regular verb like يَكْتُبُون. The word بَيْض means “eggs” as a group and takes a masculine describing word: الْبَيْض لَذِيذ.

Class activity

Write what your family eats: six sentences with different persons of the verb, for example أُمِّي تَأْكُل الْخُضَار، نَحْنُ نَأْكُل الْأَرُزّ. Then ask a friend what he or she eats for breakfast, lunch and dinner and write the answers.
