Explanation

According to the textbook, “Ufq” reflects the fate of our people on the eve of the war, during the war and in the years after it. In it the digging of the Great Fergana Canal by hand in 45 days, with 160 thousand people on a 270 km work, is recalled as an unmatched feat. Said Ahmad wrote the fates and dreams of the people behind these huge works in three books: “Qirq besh kun”, “Hijron kunlarida”, “Ufq bo‘sag‘asida”. The excerpt “Qochoq” is taken from the second book and gives the tragedy of Ikromjon, Jannat xola and their runaway son Tursunboy. In the work Tursunboy’s deed is condemned and the parents share the blame, since they raised their only son spoiled. But beneath these accusations lies condemnation of the war and of those who brought it about, because the cause of the misfortunes is war; and Abdulla Qahhor judged that in the novel every word is true.

Worked examples
Example: Ikromjon, Jannat xola, To‘lanboy, Nizomjon, Asrora, Dildor, Zebi, A’zamjon: the trilogy has many characters and Tursunboy is one among them, so the novel is not one family’s story but the life of a whole people.
Example: in the excerpt nature fits the heroes’ state: spring does not come into Tursunboy’s heart, as the cranes bring spring but cannot melt the snow in his soul.
Class activity

Find two or three nature descriptions in the excerpt and write in a sentence or two how they match the hero’s mood. Do not copy from the text.
